Lionel Messi put in a superb display, and bagged a hat-trick, to rescue Barcelona against local rivals Espanyol, after Luis Enrique's side had put in a surprisingly lack-lustre first-half display.
Sergio Garcia stunned the Nou Camp when capitalised on a mistake from Sergio Busquets, ran at a hapless Gerard Pique, and fired past Claudio Bravo after 13 minutes to put the visitors ahead.
Barcelona's responded by dominating possession, but rarely looked like scoring against their organised mid-table opponents in the first half. Jordi Alba was denied from close range after a delightful chipped pass from Messi, before the Argentinian forward saw his free kick strike the crossbar, but for the most part Espanyol held firm.
